California Fire Prevention Fee
(SRA Fire Prevention Benefit Fee)

This fee is a State of California fee and is not administered or billed by the County of Mendocino.

The fee is assessed to owners of habitable structures located within the SRA (State Responsibility Area). Those “habitable structures” were determined by the State.

Bills for the fee are mailed by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the fee collected by the State Board of Equalization.

Bills are mailed to owners of property as of July 1 and ar for the Fiscal Year starting on July1. The Board of Forestry adjusts the fee annually. The fee for Fiscal Year 2013-14 is $152.33.

If you were sent a bill for $117.33, the State has already determined that you are also billed & covered by a local fire district.

If you were sent a bill for $152.33, the State has determined that you are not covered by a local fire district. If you disagree with the "Notice of Determination," you need to petition the State for a “Redetermination” within 30 days. You may contact the following offices for supporting documentation:

  • Mendocino County Assessor – for back-up documentation of “habitable structures”. Please call 707-234-6800.
  • Mendocino County Tax Collector – for back-up documentation (tax bill) showing payment to applicable local fire district for the most recent fiscal year. Please call 707-234-6875.
